Travel Guide: Avon, ColoradoI traveled to Avon, Colorado, to bring you this Guide for your next Extra Holidays vacay. Here are recommendations for where to stay, what to eat, and must-dos in the surrounding area. Where to stay: Club Wyndham Resort at Avon Located in Avon, Colorado, and less than 15 minutes from Vail, Club Wyndham Resort at Avon has everything you need for an Extra cozy vacay to the Rocky Mountains. The resort is modern and spacious with incredible amenities, and is in a walkable area close to some amazing dining options. If you're planning a Colorado ski trip, this resort is in an ideal location to hit the slopes. I stayed in a two-bedroom presidential suite that felt like home away from home. It was gorgeous, modern, and SO spacious – about 1,500 square feet! The suite comfortably slept 8 guests with a king bed in the master, two double beds in the guest bedroom, and a queen sleeper sofa in the living room. This is one of the nicest suites I've ever stayed in; I'm not exaggerating when I say I never wanted to go home. One of the perks of staying in a suite is having extra space. There was a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, private balcony, washer/dryer, and fireplace. These extra amenities made our week-long stay much more comfortable. We spent most nights watching movies by the fireplace, and most mornings drinking coffee on our balcony and enjoying the view. The resort also had amazing amenities and was in an ideal location. There was an indoor hot tub with a waterfall, game room, fitness center, multiple fireplaces outside, and a complimentary shuttle for when you want to explore nearby shopping and dining. Skiers can enjoy a ski-valet service, storage lockers, and a complimentary shuttle to the nearby slopes. Even if you're not a skier (like myself) there is so much to do in the surrounding area. With an abundance of restaurants, hikes, and shopping, there is something for everyone in Avon, Colorado. Plus, you just can't beat these balcony views! Where to eat: Southside Benderz: This sports bar had some of the best burgers I've ever had. Vintage: If you're feeling Extra, check out the Champagne Brunch at Vintage in Vail. The food is incredible, and the ambiance will have you feeling like you're in a café in Europe. Ticino: If you're looking for authentic Italian food, look no further. This was my favorite restaurant in the area – we ate here twice! It's also conveniently located a few steps away from the resort. Loaded Joes – Avon: Coffee, sandwiches, live music – this hidden gem is only a short walk away from the resort.Avon Bakery & Deli: A great spot for a grab-and-go breakfast, and less than a 10-minute walk from the resort. Columbine Café & Bakery: Breakfast, lunch, and fresh pastries. Pazzo's Pizzeria: Grab a pizza to-go and enjoy it in your suite! Vin48: This restaurant and wine bar is perfect for a nicer night out. What to do: Explore Vail Village: This is the perfect spot to shop ‘til you drop, explore local restaurants and breweries, and more. Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park: Ride the gondola up to America's only mountain-top theme park. Iron Mountain Hot Springs: These 16 geothermal soaking pools each differ in temperature and contain 14 health boosting minerals to make you feel relaxed. They're also situated alongside the Colorado River and have beautiful Rocky Mountain views. *Insider tip: Visit Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park and Iron Mountain Hot Springs on the same day. They're both located in Glenwood Springs, right across from each other! Sopris Alpaca Farm and Boutique: On your way to Glenwood Springs, I highly recommend stopping by Sopris Alpaca Farm. You can hand-feed alpacas and shop for unique gifts in the boutique. Vines at Vail Winery: Located on 4 Eagle Ranch, this winery has a relaxed atmosphere with amazing views. It's also located on 4 Eagle Ranch where horseback riding, ziplining, and other activities are available. Hike Shrine Ridge trail: This moderate 4.3-mile hike is known for its beautiful wildflowers from July-September. Betty Ford Alpine Gardens: Located in Vail, this is the highest elevation botanical garden in North America and is home to unique alpine and mountain plants from around the world.
