March 31 marks the 25th Anniversary of the 1999 teen romance comedy “10 Things I Hate About You”. Starring some big Hollywood names, the screenplay is a modernization of William Shakespeare's comedy “The Taming of the Shrew”, retold in the setting of the late 1990's at Padua High School, located in the Seattle area. For a limited time, Extra Holidays is offering 20% off qualifying stays at WorldMark – The Camlin in Seattle, where the movie takes place. Bookings include a copy of the DVD to watch in your suite, plus the book “No Fear Shakespeare: The Taming of the Shrew” and a box of snacks and candy to bring you right back to 1999. During your visit to Seattle, bring the movie to life by stopping by these iconic settings from the movie. 1. Kerry ParkKerry Park offers the best view of the Seattle skyline, including the Space Needle, Elliot Bay, and the peak of Mount Rainier in one panoramic scene. It's no surprise the movie's creators used this gorgeous view for the opening credits. 2. Aurora BridgeWatching the movie's establishing shots, you're also likely to catch the Aurora Bridge, also known as the George Washington Memorial Bridge. Completed in 1932, the 2,945-foot-long bridge carries State Route 99 over the west end of Seattle's Lake Union and connects the Queen Anne and Fremont areas of town. 3. Fremont TrollPeek under the north end of the Aurora Bridge and you'll find The Freemont Troll, a public mixed media sculpture that got its big break in a scene with Kat Stratford's younger sister, Bianca, and her love interest, Cameron James. Reaching 18 feet tall and weighing over 13,000 pounds, The Troll clutches a Volkswagen Beetle that it seemingly snatched from the roadway above.4. Stadium High School & Stadium BowlWhile the movie's characters attend Padua High School, Stadium High School in Tacoma operates as a real public high school. The property itself is more than 100 years old and was originally built as a luxury hotel. Stadium High School overlooks Stadium Bowl, where Patrick Verona serenaded Kat with a charming rendition of Frankie Valli's “Can't Take My Eyes Off of You” accompanied by the high school band. The stadium seats 15,000 and is the home field to Stadium High School and the nearby Woodrow Wilson High School.5. The Stratford Family HomeThe fictional Stratford family home is located at 2715 North Junett Street, to the northwest of Stadium High. From the wraparound second floor porch, you can imagine Kat and her father having their emotional heart to heart.6. Fremont Place Book CompanyYou won't be able to pick up a copy of “The Feminine Mystique” at Fremont Place Book Company anymore, as the store is now home to Portage Bay Gifts, but you can pick up a souvenir or two. If you're hoping to gaze longingly at each other between stacks of books, the 26-year-old bookstore Ophelia's Books is an excellent alternative.7. Lake UnionPretend to ditch detention like Kat and Patrick and enjoy a pedal boat ride on Lake Union in the heart of Seattle. There are plenty of local companies offering boat rentals, but beware, falling for the bad boy during your ride may be inevitable.8. Gas Works ParkSave the first kiss for Gas Works Park, a public park on the site of the former Seattle Gas Light Company. While the park was converted into a paintball experience for the film, there's no haybales or paint-filled balloons to be found here, but Seattle has a few paintball parks in the area if you're itching to get messy. 9. Buckaroo TavernThe movie's packed bar scene was filmed at what was once the iconic Buckaroo Tavern. While you can no longer visit the Buckaroo, you can grab a bite at Le Coin, a French restaurant that operates from the original building. 10. Paramount TheatreAcross the street from your resort is the gorgeous Paramount Theatre – a real filming location. While you won't get to dance the night away while being serenaded by the alternative rock band Letters to Cleo, buy yourself a boutonniere and grab a ticket to one of the many performances the theatre offers year-round. The theatre also offers a free tour the first Saturday of every month! To learn more, visit the Paramount Theatre website.
