Situated 45 minutes from Santa Fe, El Santuario de Chimayo is a mission of the Holy Family Parish. This religious order, which was founded in Barcelona, Spain in 1864 to minister to the needs of families, came to the area in 1920 as there were many Spanish-speaking people living here. Up until that time, El Santuario de Chimayo was associated with the wide-reaching mother parish of Santa Cruz.
