Situated about seven miles from Red River in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the Columbine Canyon Trail offers some of the prettiest hiking in the region. It's a fairly easy hike that will take you along a stream, through a forest, and across some meadows filled with wildflowers. A nice change from the typical New Mexico desert, the trail is not very crowded with people. However, you will encounter llamas.

This beautiful state park is a great place to come for all sorts of recreational activities. The 2400-acre Eagle Nest Lake is filled with salmon and rainbow trout, making it a dream spot for anglers. Boating and swimming are also popular at this man-made reservoir, which is situated in a glacial valley on Wheeler Peak. During the winter months, you'll find snowmobiling and ice fishing reigning supreme.

Located in the Carson National Forest, this spectacular ski area is open every day in the winter. Discover wide, well-groomed trails for classic downhill skiing. There are also trails for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. After the snow melts, Enchanted Forest has its summer season featuring fitness and mountain bike camps and trail running. Hiking and mountain biking is allowed without a trail pass.
