Hearst Castle – Named La Cuesta Encantada (The Enchanted Hill) by owner William Randolph Hearst; when you are there it is easy to see why he chose this name. The castle sits atop a hill and overlooks the Pacific Ocean 1600 feet below. Now, Hearst Castle is a California State Monument and Park, donated to the state by Hearst's estate in 1958 and is considered on of the most well known monuments in America. The castle boasts a main building with two towers, a rectory, a library, and a great hall. In total there are 165 rooms filled treasures to admire. The gardens are equally impressive with 127 acres of gardens, terraces and fountains.
