If you are planning to visit Afton during the Route 66 400-mile yard sale, make sure you check the organization’s website for an update of the proper date. It is at the beginning of June, but falls on a new date each year. Also, make sure to book accommodations early as this day is very busy all along Route 66.

For the fishermen, there is an abundance of fishing available in and around the Afton area. This includes 5 state parks and species include bass, white bass, channel catfish, crappie and bluegill. Largemouth bass can be caught year round.

Leading from Afton into Grand Lake is where you will find Horse Creek. This is an excellent and highly recommended fishing location. Also, in Horse Creek, you will find pelicans, geese and ducks in the fall and winter; bald eagles and osprey in winter.

For rodeo fans, the Ted Jones Memorial Rodeo is held in Afton. When planning to arrive for this event, accommodations fill up quickly so book early.
