Afton Area Activities

Afton Station in Afton – The perfect spot for Route 66 history buffs, the Station has an awesome collection of old post cards, signs, photographs and memorabilia including those from the original Buffalo Ranch. Housed in the old Eagle DX filling station, be sure to check out the display of antique Porsche, Desoto and Packard cars.

Summerside Vineyards and Winery – For the gastronomic traveler, a stay in Afton is not complete without a visit to the Summerside Vineyards and Winery in nearby Grove. Aside from touring the vineyards and sampling exceptional wines, a gift store is available with gourmet founds and custom wine related items.

Emu Only – You are always welcome at the Emu Only Ranch, located in Afton. There are indoor viewing areas for emus from incubation to full grown. Emu oil and meat is available in the gift shop.

Darryl Starbird's National Rod & Custom Car Hall of Fame – A tribute to the leading street rod and custom car builders from around the USA. Darryl Starbird also has on display 20 of his own creations. In total, 44 custom built vehicles are features.

Diamond Triple C Ranch at Grand Lake – A unique day trip for a tour and learning experience at this alpaca ranch; the property features a farm store, 3 huge ponds that are stocked with fish, and hundreds of acres of scenic pastures to explore by guided tour.

Monkey Island Trail Rides – Located just outside of Afton, your family can explore 100 acres of lakeside woods and pastures, either by guided horseback or jump on a hayride! Season activities for all ages planned.

Shangri-La Gold Course and School – Two 18 hole championship courses surrounded by the famous Grand Lake o’ the Cherokees. The only golf course in Oklahoma with an onsite golf school that offers 1, 2 and 3 day golf school packages; and rental clubs are available.

Coleman Theatre – Located about 15 minutes from Afton in Miami, OK, the Coleman Theatre offers visitors spectacular Spanish colonial architecture and features a Louis XV interior with elaborate chandeliers, furnishings and golf leaf trim. Year round calendar includes cultural events from bluegrass concerts to ballet. Guided tours of the property are offered.

Lendonwood Gardens – Anyone who loves nature and gardening will thoroughly enjoy a visit to Lendonwood Gardens. Wander through the gardens and wonder at more than 1,500 different plants, towering ancient oak trees and botanical gardens set on 3 acres just outside of Afton. Make sure you allow time to relax in the Japanese tea pavilion that sits at the edge of a koi pond.

Eastern Trails Museum – An interesting way to spend a few hours while in Afton is to visit the Easter Trails Museum in neighboring Vinta, which features historical collections, Native American artifacts, and articles which belonged to Vinnie Ream, the first woman and the youngest artist to ever receive a commission from the United States Government.

Paddlewheel Riverboat Excursions Aboard the Cherokee Queen I and II - One of the most popular attractions in the area, beautiful scenery and lakeside sightseeing awaits you when you take a paddlewheel boat cruise. They also offer moonlit romance cruises and specialty dinner cruises.
